PARTICIPATION OF ILYA SHRAH IN THE UKRAINIAN PUBLIC AND EDUCATIONAL AND POLITICAL AND LEGAL MOVEMENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract

n the article analyzes the participation of Ilya Shrag in the Ukrainian and public-educational and political-legal movement at the beginning of the 20th century. It is noted that Ilya Shrag's state and legal orientations were based on the protection of the rights of the native language, the peculiarities of the legal status of the Ukrainian population, the land issue and other important issues of the life of society. The state-legal views of Ilya Shrag can be traced especially clearly during his active participation in social and political processes that took place on the territory of Ukrainian lands. His participation in the Ukrainian national movement contributed to the unification of conscious figures of that time in the field of solving the Ukrainian question. He tried to establish close contacts with Western Ukrainian figures, joint activities with whom made it possible to actualize cathedral ideas in society, to raise the issue of Ukrainian national autonomy to a new level. At the same time, cooperation in political, cultural, social and educational activities became more productive. It is emphasized that I. Shrag worked fruitfully in the field of enlightenment, the establishment of professional and cultural and educational public organizations, which gave a significant impetus to social and political transformations in different time periods of the development of Ukrainian society. During his activity, he was repeatedly the mouthpiece of the Ukrainian population in defense of the ideas of their own autonomy and national self-identity. It is noted that I. Shrag considered the enlightenment movement to be one of the factors in the development of Ukrainian society. In this context, he saw as an important task the direct participation of the leading figures of that time in cultural and educational activities, which, along with social and political initiatives, should contribute to the formation of Ukrainian national consciousness. Having proper professional training, he was clearly aware that the unity of the Ukrainian nation and its development is determined by a complex of qualitative achievements in cultural, scientific, social and other spheres of socio-political life, which contributes to the proper development of Ukrainian statehood.
