Reactive and personal anxiety among students of sea and river transport specialties

Abstract

The article analyzes the features of the psycho-emotional state of students of the of sea and river transport specialties, in particular, the state of reactive and personal anxiety based on the analysis of scientifi c literature, interviews, empirical research using the Spielberger-Khanin Scale of Reactive and Personal Anxiety. The question of the objectively existing base of the formation of increased reactive and personal anxiety in the selected diagnostic category due to the specifi cities of this occupation, associated with an extended naval voyage. This in turn imposes a signifi cant load on the psycho-physiological state of a person. Shift method of work, being in spaces with high noise levels of noise, polluted air, frequent change of climatic zones are factors affecting the psycho-physiological state of a sea worker. During the realization of the research goals – to study the state of reactive and personal anxiety among students of the sea and river transport specialties who underwent naval practice – the following methods were used: observation, conversation with subjects, the Spielberger-Hanin Scale of Reactive and Personal Anxiety. The study was conducted on the research basis of the Odessa National Maritime University, was attended by 50 students who have completed naval practice, who have spent at least 3 months at sea. The study was conducted with the informational consent of the surveyed, in compliance with the norms of ethics and bioethics. Analysis of the data suggests that the indicators of personal anxiety compared with the indicators of situational anxiety among students after a long trip are signifi cantly different in the levels of “moderate anxiety” and “high anxiety” (ρφ <0.05). A study of the state of reactive and personal anxiety among students specializing in river and sea transport indicates a verifi able presence of a certain range of properties: periods of low mood, irritability, a tendency to get upset more often on minor occasions than prior. Statements about the desire to be as lucky as the majority of others. The tendency to feel anxiety regarding experienced diffi culties, to return and re-live past experiences, without the ability to change anything due to objective reasons. The presence of periods of decline in productivity. The found characteristics signal a reduction in the adaptive capacity of students in the diagnosed clinical circle, the need for additional research on the psycho-emotional sphere of seafarers.
